This two-way table resource includes guided notes, practice worksheets and two scavenger hunts. Your students will have the opportunity to create, interpret and discuss two-way tables. Below, you will find a detailed description of the notes, worksheets and scavenger hunts.
There are three half pages of guided notes on two-way tables. The first page of notes provides the definition of a two-way table. Next, students can use step by step directions on how to create a two-way table. A short narrative and blank two-way table is included. A second page of notes provides the definition of relative frequency. Students are asked to use the data from the first page of notes to calculate the relative frequencies. Following this task, there are eight questions for the students to answer based on the two-way table. A third page of notes provides the definition and example for joint relative frequency, marginal relative frequency and conditional relative frequency. You can advise the students to use a colored pencil to highlight the cells that apply to each frequency.
Four worksheets (eight questions each) will allow your students to have an understanding of joint relative frequency, marginal relative frequency and conditional relative frequency. There is one worksheet for each type of frequency and a mixed review worksheet. Students can use a colored pencil to highlight the cells that are used to calculate each type of frequency. On each worksheet, a narrative is provided and students will practice using the given information to fill in the two-way table.
There are two scavenger hunts which can be used to deepen student understanding on two-way tables. Each scavenger hunt consists of twelve problems. Students begin with the first problem and navigate through the problems until the last answer should lead them back to the first problem. On some of the two-way tables, students will use reasoning to determine the missing values.
