As a teacher I know how important small group reading groups are to the reading curriculum. In my class I implement Beverly Tyner small group instruction which has been proven very effective. If you don't know anything about Tyner I highly recommend looking into it especially for the younger primary grades (k-2).
Tyner small groups require an extension to each small group lesson. This extension is for the students to do individually at their desk. Tyner has a few in her book that she recommends but I added a few more that I use in my classroom.
However, these activities are not just effective or useful for Tyner they can be implemented throughout your reading curriculum or what ever small group study you implement in your classroom.
Enjoy, ENGAGE, Enlighten :)
