Word Study is a great way to get students to learn patterns to help them read and write. Included are 38 individual type it out activities that range from beginning sounds, blends, digraphs, and long and short vowels in both words and pictures.
Looking for a great way to assess your word study? How about using less paper and more technology?
These Type it Out pages correspond to the word study sorts 1-38. There is one for each sort to act as an assessment for students. Each file is saved as both a pdf and a jpeg file individually. Students can open the file without altering the images. They are able to type directly onto the pdfs or write on the jpegs to complete the activities. I have student’s print these out and use these as spell checks to free up my time.
Sort spell checks for 1-5, 12-20, 36-38 have some sounds/patterns that students may not know – for these I assess for the application of the sound or pattern (ie. do they use blend, digraph, or beginning sound)
Sort spell checks for 6-11, 21-35 apply sounds/patterns that students should have or build on prior skills so I assess the whole word.
For additional resources check out my Words Their Way sorts and workbook and Words Their Way Read the Room word study activities. All of these are bundled together as well.
