The following is an application activity for the Social Change unit of Sociology class.
For this activity students are given 8 photographs to look at and decide which type of crowd is represented in each photograph. Next, students are to defend their choice with at least one support from what they learned and know about identifying types of crowds.
This activity ends with a personal application in which students are asked to list and describe a recent crowd they were a part of and consider their behavior while a part of the crowd. After considering the crowd behavior they are asked to apply a theory of crowd behavior to explain the overall behavior of the crowd in which they were a part of.
This activity is an excellent application activity which allows both student and teacher to gauge student mastery and understanding of types of crowds and crowd behavior theories.
