This is a basic activity to check student understanding about three main types of data. It requires students to sort data into three groups - Categorical, Discrete and Continuous.
There are a few ways to use it -
(1) Hand out to each student to stick into their notebooks to do as an individual task
(2) Print it out and trim the mat and cards then laminate for repeated use in pairs or groups of 3
(3) Get your students to draw a card from a box, turn to their neighbour and ask each other the question then discuss if it the answer is Categorical data, Discrete data or Continuous data.
(4) Gallery walk - Print out a few poster sized Mats. Place the cards on a bench and ask students to pick up one card at a time and move to one of the posters to stick it in the correct category. Repeat until all cards are used. Then they must walk around to each poster and check their peers have correctly classified the cards.
Hope this is useful!
