The purpose of this activity is to learn about the different categories of engineering (civil, mechanical, electrical, and chemical) and then research a specific type of engineering that falls under one of those categories.
The webquest will start with students researching and defining the four categories of engineering. Next, students will choose, or you will assign them, a type of engineering from the cards provided. Students will align their type with one of the four categories and defend their reasoning. Students will then complete the worksheet and research to find what that type of engineer does, the education needed to become that type of engineer, and the career statistics for that type of engineering.
At the end of the activity, you can either group the students to share their findings or have them present to the class.
This package specifically contains:

• Lesson guide: The lesson guide outlines the steps to administering this activity
• Webquest worksheet: Two pages that will guide their research
• Types of engineer cards: To be printed and cut out for students to select or you to assign
• Teacher Key: Has the definitions for each engineering category and roughly assigns each type of engineer to a category
*Note: Students will need internet access to complete this activity.
