This is meant to be a self-contained workshop lesson on the four major types of fossils (resin fossils, trace fossils, mold and cast fossils, and body fossils).
During the mini-lesson you will show “How Fossils Are Formed” from YouTube.
The working portion of the class will involve students classifying pictures of fossils and thinking about what scientists can learn from the different types of fossils.
Finally, the debriefing will consist of comparing answers for the two activities and building an anchor chart for the four major types of fossils.
Two versions of an assessment are also included for measuring student understanding.
All necessary keys and materials are included.
