Use this activity to review types of fiction and nonfiction genres with students. Print the answer key to use a handout for students to keep or use the fill in the blank worksheet to review the definitions of the different genres. Have students color code the fiction and nonfiction genres. Students can work together or be given specific examples of text that fit the genres.
This product also comes with three activities for students to use to track their reading of different genres. First, a chart where students can list the titles in the correct box of the genre they just read. Second, a graph where students can set a goal of the number of each type of genre they are going to read throughout the year and graph the types of books they read. Third, chain strips for the whole class to visually see which genre they read more of. Print the strips on two different colored paper. One for fiction, one for nonfiction. As students finish a book, they grab the correct colored strip and write the title, author, and specific genre of the book they read and add it to the class fiction and nonfiction chains.
This product is uploaded as a Word document so teachers can tweak definitions or examples to better fit their classroom needs.
