Description
Are you looking for engaging practice for students to learn and practice with the different types of lines? Then have your students practice with intersecting, parallel and perpendicular lines on this digital geometry notebook for Google Slides®. Students apply what they learn about these types of lines to complete tasks. Teachers can use this Google Slides® resource to complement their geometry lessons.
The interactive digital notebook is divided into sections for intersecting lines, parallel lines, and perpendicular lines. Each section has four tasks and a newly added open-ended math routine to engage students with the geometry content.
HOW IT WORKS
- Assign the Google Slides® file to students via email or Google Classroom®
- Students review the two TECH TIP slides explaining how to use the Google Slides® Draw Tools for lines and shapes.
- Students read the INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE, and the slide SPEAKER NOTES that support understanding of how to complete each task.
- The students interact on the slides with the tasks by entering text or using the Google Slides®' draw tools.
- Students watch an embedded VIDEO that reinforces and explains the attributes of intersecting lines, parallel lines, and perpendicular lines. Students have complete control over the video, allowing them to pause, rewind, and watch it as many times as needed.
- On the video slide, additional links to another video and website provide more support and reinforcement for the content if needed.
- At the beginning of each section, students engage in one of the following open-ended math routines that have a low floor-high ceiling design
- Notice and Wonder
- Would You Rather
- Which One Doesn't Belong
- Decide and Defend
- Then the student works on four different tasks in each section. There are separate sections for points, lines, line segments, and rays (12 tasks total).
- Task 1 – Identifying Intersecting Lines (or parallel lines or perpendicular lines)
- Task 2 - Defining and Drawing Intersecting Lines (or parallel lines or perpendicular lines)
- Task 3 - Understanding Intersecting Lines (or parallel lines or perpendicular lines)
- Task 4 - Applying What You Know
- 3 additional engaging tasks have students
- Find the types of lines in polygons
- Answer riddles about lines
- Find the types of lines used in a modern art painting
SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS
- The INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE slide has detailed directions on working with the Interactive Digital Notebook.
- All the slides provide instructions, while the SPEAKER NOTES section of each slide provides more detailed instructions.
- In addition to the SPEAKER NOTES, the VIDEO SLIDE has another WEBSITE and VIDEO link to further support student understanding of intersecting, parallel, and perpendicular lines. These are kid-friendly, trusted, and reliable websites and videos.
- To view the videos, access to YouTube is necessary. However, students view the video through video.link for a kid-friendly viewing of YouTube videos (removes comments, related videos, etc.). If you do not have access to YouTube, I offer an alternate link to share with students. The alternate link hosts the video on a separate site (not YouTube).
