Product Description
The Types of Matter SMARTBoard Multipack is a bundle of 4 presentations: Properties of Matter, Elements, Compounds, and Mixtures.

Properties of Matter – A Fifth Grade SMARTBoard Introduction is a SMARTBoard 5th grade level instructional presentation
It includes a SMARTBoard presentation of the text along with one fully interactive presentation slide that is also available in PDF format to print and issue as classwork, homework, or attach/incorporate into an interactive notebook. Students can also complete the activity during the presentation as reinforcement for the presentation.

The presentation includes:
• Introductory terminology (volume, mass, matter, weight, state of matter, evaporation, melting point, freezing point, boiling point, sublimation, and density).
• Tools for measuring mass and volume
• Weight introduced
• States of matter described
• Ways states of matter change
• How density works

The last slide is white-background and used for the printable. The printable is already in PDF form in the package. The white-background page is not included in the total pages. I include it in case you would like to change any of the data and recreate the printable.

The interactive/review slide and printable:
• The interactive activity is a labeling/matching activity where students match descriptions with vocabulary/pictures. Included vocabulary: volume, mass, matter, weight, state of matter, evaporation, melting point, freezing point, boiling point, sublimation, and density

Elements – A Fifth Grade SMARTBoard Introduction is a SMARTBoard 5th grade level instructional presentation
It includes a SMARTBoard presentation of the text along with two fully interactive presentation slides that are also available in PDF format to print and issue as classwork, homework, or attach/incorporate into an interactive notebook. Students can also complete the activities during the presentation as reinforcement of the presentation.

The presentation includes:
• Introductory terminology (element, atom, proton, neutron, electron, atomic number, molecule, metal, nonmetal, metalloids, noble gas, and periodic table).
• Introduction to elements and atoms and where element names come from.
• Common elements of the Earth’s crust, water, and air.
• Common elements in animals and plants.
• Protons, neutrons, and electrons explained.
• Atomic number and atomic weight introduced.
• Molecules.
• Properties and explanations of different types of elements (metals, nonmetals, and metalloids). Noble gases also introduced.
• Dmitri Mendeleev and the Periodic Table of the Elements
• How small are atoms?
• How scientists maneuver atoms.

The last slides have white-backgrounds and used for the printables. The printables are already in PDF form in the package. The white-background pages are not included in the total pages. I include them in case you would like to change any of the data and recreate the printables.

The interactive/review slide and printable:
• The first interactive activity is a labeling/matching activity where students match descriptions with vocabulary/pictures. Included vocabulary element, atom, proton, neutron, electron, atomic number, molecule, metal, nonmetal, metalloids, noble gas, and periodic table.
• The second interactive activity has students identify the parts of the periodic table (metals, nonmetals, metalloids, and noble gases). Students also identify the data for a single element taken from the periodic table (element name, element symbol, atomic mass, and atomic number).

Compounds – A Fifth Grade SMARTBoard Introduction is a SMARTBoard 5th grade level instructional presentation
It includes a SMARTBoard presentation of the text along with one fully interactive presentation slide that is also available in PDF format to print and issue as classwork, homework, or attach/incorporate into an interactive notebook. Students can also complete the activity during the presentation as reinforcement of the presentation.

The presentation includes:
• Introductory terminology (chemical change, compound, chemical formula, subscript, and hydrocarbon)
• How chemical changes occur
• Formation of compounds
• Naming of compounds with 4 examples of everyday compounds (with chemical name, chemical compound, and elements in compound)
• How compounds are identified using physical and chemical properties
• The uses of compounds in everyday lives

The last slide has a white-background and is used for the printable.

Included vocabulary: chemical change, chemical formula, compound, hydrocarbon, and subscript. There is also a section where students read 10 chemical formulas with subscripts and, using a key at the top of the page, list the elements and amount of each for the listed compounds.

Mixtures – A Fifth Grade SMARTBoard Introduction is a SMARTBoard 5th grade level instructional presentation
It includes a SMARTBoard presentation of the text along with two fully interactive presentation slides that are also available in PDF format to print and issue as classwork, homework, or attach/incorporate into an interactive notebook. Students can also complete the activities during the presentation as reinforcement for the presentation.

The presentation includes:
• Introductory terminology (mixture, suspension, solution, solvent, solute, solubility, and filtration).
• Introduction to mixtures (heterogeneous and homogeneous)
• Understanding suspensions and solutions
• Explanation of solutions, solvents, and solutes
• Principles of solubility
• Ways to separate mixtures (magnetism, flotation, filtration, and solubility)

The last slides are white-background and used for the printables. The printables are already in PDF form in the package. The white-background pages are not included in the total pages. I include them in case you would like to change any of the data and recreate the printables.

The interactive/review slides and printables:
• The first activity is a fun project-type activity where the students are given a four-object mixture. Each component of the mixture has different properties. The students will create and describe a machine or contraption that will separate the items based on the four ways that mixtures can be separated. The steps need to be described as well. An example is shown.
• The second activity is a labeling/matching activity where students match descriptions with vocabulary/pictures. Included vocabulary: mixture, suspension, solution, solvent, solute, solubility, magnetism, flotation, and filtration

SMARTBoard presentations require the use of Notebook Software. They are not compatible with Promethean Active Inspire software. There are free SMARTBoard viewers online, however.
