Ready to teach your students about the Real Number System? Build on their background knowledge by discussing essential vocabulary including positive numbers, negative numbers, fractions, and types of decimals (terminating, non-terminating, and repeating).
The lesson starts with a Think-Pair-Share where students discuss the similarities and differences that they notice within a set of numbers. Each number type is discussed at length. Notes are available within the speaker notes to help guide questioning and check for understanding.
Pop Quiz! Slides are available which allow you to check for understanding throughout the lesson. Ensure you check the speaker notes for information on how to conduct these quizzes.
At the end of the lesson, there are two extension activities. During "Who Has A...," students write one of the initial numbers down (a hyperlink to the slide is available within the presentation) and stand when you call out a number type.
A second extension activity involves partners comparing and contrasting the numbers they've written down, using the key vocabulary learned.
This is best used in conjunction with my Types of Numbers Guided Notes
