Do your students love Mo Willems' characters? Mine cannot get enough of them! I use his Pigeon books to teach many different topics, including different types of sentences. We read three of his books: Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late, and The Pigeon Takes a Bath. We sort sentences from these books by type and then practiced writing our own.
-Pocket Chart Headers: statement, command, question, exclamation, declarative, imperative, interrogative, exclamatory
-8 sentences for pocket chart from each book:
-Speech bubbles for writing the 4 different sentence types
-Directions for pigeon craft (**disclaimer: there is not a template!)
