This PowerPoint presentation includes the initial set of notes, as well as the organizer that students will use at the end of the acitivty. The PowerPoint corresponds directly to the SmartAmp workspace that is linked below. If you and/or your students have a Google Account, you can log-in using that information.
After the initial set of notes on the powerpoint (a handout, if you prefer they have a hard copy and do not have access to technology), open the SmartAmp work-space (link below) and confirm the notes you have just taken. Show the "Storms" video to get the attention of your students. Following the video, divide students up into at least 5 groups. Each group is then assigned a type of storm that they are to research. The "must have" guidelines are listed in the work-space. Students can then type research directly into the work-space on SmartAmp if you have access to technology. If not, have students write down the information and share out as a collective group while you type in the information so all students can view it. After all of the information is sifted through, you will then go back to the PowerPoint handout and help students find the most important information to include in their graphic organizer.
