This is an activity sheet that focuses on the three different types of volcanoes. Students are asked to draw a cinder-cone volcano, shield volcano, and a composite volcano. In addition to their drawings students are asked to write 1 to 2 sentences describing each type of volcano.
The second portion of the activity sheet requires students to explain how a volcano erupts. The students are required to include several key words in their paragraph.
Finally, students are given a diagram of a volcano with a word bank. They will be required to label the diagram.
This activity sheet is general enough to use with any textbook or informational article. It would be an excellent literacy center activity when paired with a Science textbook or informational article on volcanoes. It is a great way to assess students' understanding of volcanoes. It also integrates writing into the assessment which is a vital skill for students who are working towards achieving the common core goals.
