This PowerPoint covers Segments and Lines, and is aligned to the Common Core standards and the Florida standards. The presentation is divided into eight sections which include: Segment Addition; Midpoint Formula; Pythagorean Theorem & Distance Formula; Partitions of Segments; Parallel & Perpendicular Lines; Equations of Lines; Perpendicular Bisectors; Transversal Angle Pairs. The topics are chunked into realistic concepts that can be completed in a single class period. The standard(s) for each topic are provided in the "Notes" section.
My PowerPoints have been developed, modified and improved over nine years of teaching Regular Geometry at the high school level. Every topic includes a title, an objective, standard(s), essential questions and concise information regarding the particular concept. My lessons focus primarily on investigation and practice, not lecture or note-taking. As a result, my PowerPoints are not a stand-alone resource, but are used to deliver critical vocabulary, formulas, concepts and processes in 15 minutes or less. My students are expected to copy this information into their graph notebooks in the Cornell format, hence the essential questions. I also place my presentations on my class website for students who are absent.
