I love UNO. A great game with easy to follow rules coupled with challenges, making it suitable for any age.
The game follows the rules as set in the original game by ® Mattel, however has the scope for unique ‘family’ rules.
Using Uno as the base game, you can achieve a high number of productions, during game time. I use this in the clinic all the time and have found it to be an effective and fun game for clients.
The game has been modified to practice speech sounds. All numbered, coloured cards have picture stimuli. Depending on what level of the hierarchy you are working with, the client can produce the word or make up a sentence containing the word, as the card is placed on the discard pile. The sentence can start with a carrier phrase – e.g. This is a…. or be unique.
I recommend printing the pages on card and laminating for durability.
A bit about Articulation
When working on speech sounds it is important to move through a hierarchy, starting with the sound in isolation moving through to words, before phrases, sentences, stories and conversation. It is important to achieve competence at each level before moving onto the next level.
This resource focuses on word level but can also be adapted to use with phrase and sentence level
