Need an extension lesson on math problem solving?
Want an alternate way for students to approach word problems?
Don't want to make your own presentation because you've got other things to do tonight?
Teach math problem solving strategies easily and create successful learners!
This product includes a PDF of a slide presentation/guided lesson, walking students step by step through the UPSL process, a math strategy for solving word problems.
A sample problem is included in the presentation, showing the each step in the process.
I created this presentation with the idea that math problems, particularly word problems, don't have to be scary, and that there can be different ways to approach a solution strategy.
Can be used as a teacher directed lesson, or in a math center on a device for more self-directed learners.
Access to the file as a Google Sheets presentation is also included.
In my math classes, we discuss that there are various ways someone can solve a math problem. Our brains think in different ways, and we see approaches to problem solving differently. If the answer to a math problem is on top of a mountain, we can get to the "Solution Summit" by auto, helicopter, on foot, climbing, riding a donkey, etc. Some of us get there quickly, some of us may encounter more obstacles or take longer, but as long as we all arrive at the same answer, we've made our goal to get to Solution Summit!
Solve on, mathletes!
