This learning guide is a self contained, complete unit of study on the topic of matter accommodating 7-10 hours of learning. It can be used to follow on matter exploration from the junior guide or it can be used stand alone at this level. The guide is written sequentially so students progress logically through the topic.
The students will explore the three states – solid, liquid and gas, and their properties but will now consider basic atomic structure. Using the six pages of activities, thirteen hands on experiments and an investigation, students will have all the tools needed to examine and understand the physical and chemical changes of matter. Throughout the guide students will need to use language skill to explain their observations and complete a word search which acts to reinforce the scientific language of matter at this level.
Not forgetting the teacher, the guide comes complete with teacher notes, resource list and answers. Additionally, the student booklets remain as evidence of learning when it comes time to write reports and they are also perfect for student led conferences.
