These activities are inquiry based supplemental worksheets that help students understand the definition of citizenship in the United States and the process immigrants must go through to become U.S. citizens. Students will learn about what determines whether a person is a U.S. citizen. As a result of this unit students will be able to do the following:
• Understand that a citizen is an individual with certain rights and duties under a government and who, by birth or by choice, owes allegiance to that government.
• Identify whether each person in each example is a U.S. citizen or a person who needs to go through the naturalization process.
• Apply their knowledge of citizenship and explain whether a person is a U.S. citizen or not.
• Create an Acrostic Poem
These vocabulary activities includes:
3 Practice Activities that help students understand citizenship, and the Naturalization Process for the following standardized tests:
o Virginia SOL’s (Standards of Learning Test
o Florida’s EOC Assessment (End of Course Exam)
o Texas STAAR Exam

Several states require students to pass a Civics/Government social studies test to graduate from high school which include: Alabama, Maryland, Mississippi, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia.
