Invite your students to have fun as they learn about events in Oklahoma History!
A U.S. Civil War battle was fought at Perryville, Choctaw Nation, in 1863. This graphic narrative activity can be used for teaching about that battle and the associated Local History. It is especially relevant in Pittsburg County.
The activity reinforces Language Arts skills. It is an art-based activity and is thoughtfully created to connect the required Social Studies content areas with place-based education that is meaningful to students.
Relevant Oklahoma Academic Standards for the Social Studies, including Process and Literacy Skills (PALS) for Learning, are identified for Grades 2 and 3 so the teacher can use them at either level.
"Teaching Notes” are provided to easily guide the teacher through the activity. The Student page is ready for students to color in after they read and punctuate; therefore, it makes a great “reward” activity that many teachers use on Friday afternoon. It can also be used on Smart Boards. Resources for the teacher are identified with hyperlinks.
