Teaching students to count coins, the mats (both counted and blank) have students put the coins (not provided) to learn to count amounts to $1.00 for dollar coins, half dollar coins, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies. You can use either real coins or plastic. Also included: a sorting chart for students who are just learning to identify coins (for quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies only).
Can be used with groups or individuals. Blank pages can be used for testing.
Each page is bare to reduce distractions and focus on counting the coins. Fading of the product to allow for independence is encouraged.
Successfully used in classrooms currently with students in junior high with moderate to severe disabilities. Staff observations notice increased accuracy in counting and ability to answer related oral questions about coins provided to count.
Suggested: print out and copy onto cardstock. Laminate or put in plastic sleeves to encourage longevity of product once printed.
