Product Description
This lesson focuses on World War I's impact on the United States and the challenge faced by President Wilson in determining whether or not to request a declaration of war on Germany. Students will participate in discussions with one or more partners in which they will debate whether or not Wilson should have requested such a declaration. Your download will include the lesson plan with instructions, background information to provide context, information to support both positions, text of relevant laws, and a graphic organizer for students to use. This activity can be used to present the information, or as a follow-up activity through which students can delve more deeply into the topic. By having smaller partner-debates, students who are hesitant to speak in larger settings will have an opportunity to engage in this material with more comfort. And, as always, debates give our students the chance to do one of their favorite activities: arguing!
