I have developed this as the "final assignment" for a Contemporary Issues foreign policy unit in my senior classes.
I have been using the "Choices Program" from Brown University for many years now, but the "US Role in a Changing World" curriculum unit felt like it was missing a final assignment. This ends up being a really good supplement to the program.
Over the years it has changed quite a bit from inception, but the idea remains the same - ask the students hard questions and cause them to consider hard answers. I find that students often times don't consider the ramifications of choices made on the national and international levels because they want easy answers. What they come to find out is that there aren't any easy answers. How does a choice, or option, today affect the present and future?
This Word document leaves open the ability to adapt the assignment for your needs and to update the content as the world changes. You could even expand upon this and make it a much larger research project.
If you use this with your class, let me know how it goes.
