This United States Government webquest was written with my class in mind: 4th graders who (on average) read below grade level and easily get overwhelmed if information is difficult to find or if there is too much to read. They also are new to researching and navigating web sites. I wanted to introduce them to information on the U.S. Government on a web site that was clearly geared for kids.
I split the webquest into 2 parts – Each part will take them about 30-40 minutes to complete, so they will be given in separate sessions. If your class reads more quickly or works faster, you could put both parts together. Each part can be printed out double-sided on one sheet of paper.
To give the webquest, I put the link into Google Classroom, so they just need to click on it to reach the web site. https://bensguide.gpo.gov/ This is the “Apprentice” Learning Adventure, which says for ages 4-8, but the information and language is appropriate for up to 5th grade, especially if they don’t have background knowledge already on the U.S. Government.
I hope this helps another class get introduced to the U.S. Government. Please look at the preview file before purchasing to determine if this webquest is appropriate for your class.
