This lecture is a review lecture covering the North and South in the colonial period of American History. It is designed for an AP class, and thus covers much of the information the AP test will cover on this period and this subject. Because this lecture is intended as a review, students (and teachers) will be expected to know the key terms and ideas. HOWEVER, this document can be expanded upon to make a very, very detailed history of the colonial period.
Teachers note that key terms (for the AP test) are in bold. There are instructions in bolded italics (such as: "ask the class aloud..."). I suggest printing in large font and multiple spacing.
Teachers also note: material from this lecture is consistent not only with the AP textbook, but also with canonical scholarly texts such as Edmund Morgan's "American Slavery, American Freedom" and Nathan Hatch's "Democratization of American Christianity." It also draws from more recent arguments about race from scholars such as Jackie Jones (but nothing to revolutionary that it would contradict the AP test)
