This project is geared specifically on the following two loaded FL standards:
SS.912.A.6.13: Analyze significant foreign policy events during the Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon administrations.
SS.912.A.7.4: Evaluate the success of 1960s era presidents' foreign and domestic policies.
After studying the Cold War's domestic and foreign policies, students are split into 5 groups. Within their groups they research and complete the "Cold War Presidents Handout" that is sold separately. Upon completion of the handouts, groups are assigned one of the 5 presidents from the standards (Truman, Eisenhower, JFK, LBJ, or Nixon). Students then must become experts on their President to prepare for a Presidential Debate.
This product is used by those students who choose to be voters rather than act as their President. Students must rate each of the Presidents from 1-5 based on their answers to the essential questions, making note of what they did or did not like in their answer. The questions asked pull in complementary standards and are on the following topics- relationship with the USSR, communism in Asia, McCarthyism, the Great Society, and the Civil Rights Movement.
