Product Description

Here is a great debate project for your U.S. History class!

In this debate, your students will be discussing the following question: "is war ever justified?"

They are required to back up their thoughts by referencing Theodore Roosevelt's "Big Stick" policy, and instances of American imperialism found with Commodore Perry and Japan, the U.S. annexation of Hawaii, the Spanish-American War, and the Filipino-American War.

This debate provides a natural framework to discuss and critique U.S. foreign policy and imperialism, as found in the 1800-1900's. The kids love diving into this unique debate question, and it provides a great opportunity to bring current events into the historical discussion.

Included in this packet are an instruction sheet, a grading rubric, and several pages of research preparation, designed to help your students prepare for both sides of the argument.

Enjoy!
