This new song/rap from Professor Presley is a great way to preview and then review some of the key events from the Monroe to Jackson era. Students are divided into two teams and each team alternates singing/rapping the verses and the whole class does the final verse together. This product includes a PowerPoint with 12 slides. Each verse has a visual that goes along with the topics to help both auditory and visual learners access the information. Students enjoy a lively classroom and this lesson is a favorite with my classes. Topics covered in this activity include Revolutions in Latin America (Padre Hidalgo & Simon Bolivar), Monroe’s election and the Monroe Doctrine, the controversial election of 1824 with J.Q. Adams unlikely victory, the creation of the Democratic party and Jackson’s triumph in the Election of 1828, the creation of the Whig Party to counter Jackson, Jackson’s War against the National Bank, the common people’s support of Jackson, the Indian Removal Acts and the Trail of Tears. This lesson also contains a link to an instrumental hip-hop song to use as the background for the classroom rap competition. Teachers can use the preview Word Document to make copies of the lyrics for the students if desired. Remember with Professor Presley, History Rocks!
This song goes well with our PowerPoint “Political Events in Our Hemisphere”
