Students will answer several open-ended questions related to the enlightenment influence. They will use secondary online resources to assist them in answering these questions and engage in effective classroom discussions.
At the end of this lesson, students are expected to answer the following questions:
- How can the foundation of the American democracy be seen as an illustration of the Enlightenment philosophy
- Analyze how John Locke and Rousseau influenced the writing of the Declaration of Independence?
- What are three purposes of the Declaration of Independence?
This lesson will provide students with a classroom activity, lesson extension, and project ideas. The main lesson will require students to break up into learning groups and answer various open-ended questions. Once they have completed these questions they will engage in a group discussion.
