This lesson is designed to last for an hour of classtime or longer. Students will be provided with background information about George Washington and the 13 Colonies. They will show what they know by completing engaging classroom activities and answering various depths of knowledge of questions related to the lesson.
At the end of this lesson, students are expected to answer the following questions:
1. What might you include on a list about the 13 colonies? (Make sure that you
label all 13 colonies).
2. What can you say about how the 13 colonies were created?
3. Can you predict the outcome if George Washington had never rebelled
against the British?
4. As you have read president George Washington led battles over the British. In
a paragraph, explain why you believe our president should or shouldn’t fight in a war?
Teachers will be provided with a lesson introduction designed to hook students. Students will then participate in a whole group activity and show what they know by completing work individually. The main lesson will require the teacher to assign each student a specific colony and use secondary resources to find out various information about them. More details can be found through the lesson handout.
