Limiting Civil Liberties- Second Red Scare
This is approximately a 45-60 minute lesson plan focusing on the Second Red Scare. This is an important part of history that is carefully introduced in this lesson. By focusing on the Joseph McCarthy West Virginia Speech, students can analyze how this Second Red Scare impacted America in the 1950s.
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to answer the following questions:
(1) What was the 2nd Red Scare and how did it affect civil liberties?
(2) Explain the purpose of the House Un-American Activities Committee.
(3) Who was Joseph McCarthy? Explain his impact on the 2nd Red Scare.
