This lesson will not only provide you with a web quest but also discussion and extension lesson activities. The bulk of this lesson requires students to read information from a primary source found online as a means of building their background knowledge about the topic. Students will show their understanding by answering various open-ended questions related to Carpet Baggers and Scalawags.
Students will be required to complete an internet-based worksheet known as a webquest. The Carpetbagger and Scalawag webquest will use an awesome virtual museum created by history.com
At the end of this lesson, students are expected to answer the following questions:
● Explain the role of carpetbaggers in the Reconstruction era.
● Explain the role of scalawags in the Reconstruction era.
● How did the Black Codes affect African Americans in the South?
This lesson will provide students with a classroom activity, lesson extension, and project ideas. The main lesson will require students to break up into learning groups and answer various open-ended questions. Once they have completed these questions they will engage in a group discussion.
