This lesson is designed to last for an hour of class time or longer. Students will be provided with background information about the Creation of the Interstate Highway. They will show what they know by completing engaging classroom activities and answering various depths of knowledge of questions related to the lesson.
Students will engage in various classroom activities that include warm-up, guided practice, and an individual assignment. One task requires students to create their own interstate map.
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to answer the following questions:
● What is the Interstate Highway System and who signed it into law?
● Describe the background, cost, and goals of the Federal Highway Act of 1956.
● Explain the consequences of the Interstate Highway System.
