TPT Description: This is a full course syllabus that was created as an elective course in the high school setting. The course is intended to be taught to students who are currently taking US History and will study the topics in both their core history class and the film class. All the films selected align with the Georgia Performance Standards and are listed by the US History topic that it is used to teach along with the standards that they meet.
The course is paperless (no printing required), lectureless (student centered) and boundless (textbook free). Throughout the year, students assess the historical accuracy of each film and the story that it portrays from US History. After each film, the students write a review and analysis. By the end of the year, the students compile all their reviews into a portfolio that represents a college-like dissertation on the portrayal of history in Hollywood.
This could also be used to incorporate writing into the traditional history classroom in a fun and interesting way by using a few of the films and the course alignments in a US History course.
