With a partner, the students will research a United States President from the 1960’s to today: Obama, George W Bush, Clinton, George HW Bush Sr., Reagan, Carter, Ford, Nixon, Johnson, Kennedy, Eisenhower and explain their most important contribution to American history. They will be instructed to create a digital story using a variety of images, videos, audio and PowerPoint to present your president. Lastly, students will infer that president’s greatest contribution to American History.


Project Task: (verbatim from the lesson plan)
With a partner, choose one United State president to complete a digital story. This will connect to the Social Studies curriculum as an assessment of your knowledge of the era covered in the fourth quarter of eighth grade Social Studies. It will serve as your formal assessment for the year.
Each partner will choose one president. First, you must research the president following the checklist below. Then, slides will be created based on each area of the president’s life. You need to tell the story through the president’s point of view. You will need to make inferences for the president’s most important contribution to American History.
The Digital Story must be 3-5 minutes. It must include 10 slides/transitions including illustrations and audio. A storyboard, (draft) must accompany the project. You may use PowerPoint. However, Photostory, YouTube Editor, Windows Movie Maker or other tools may be used if you are comfortable with the program. Using search engines, navigate through credible sites to gain information, the digital story will be created. Gathering images through Google images is an excellent tool. Finally, each partner will present their digital story to the class.
