Help your students learn the U.S. Presidents with this bundle of class handouts.
I created this set of materials to:
(1) provide practice for students who are learning the U.S. Presidents,
(2) to improve student recognition and recall of the Presidents, and
(3) to help students assess themselves through fun, but challenging activities.
Specifically, you get a puzzle with the Presidents' full names. Several letters are missing from each name. Students are tasked with filling in the missing letters. The missing letters are purposefully designed with chunks of letters that will lead to improved recognition.
You also get a wordsearch of the Presidents' full names. There is no word bank so students have to recognize the Presidents' names in the puzzle and write them in blank spaces provided. For additional practice, students are asked to write the Presidents' numbers beside their names.
Lastly, I created an alternate version of the wordsearch that contains only the Presidents' first names. I would begin with this activity because I think that students today may encounter difficulty remembering names that are no longer commonplace like Millard, Rutherford, Chester, Ulysses, etc. This version may also satisfy teachers' need for differentiation resource.
These materials will not only be beneficial as part of your lessons on the U.S. Presidents, I think that they can also be useful brain breaks and differentiation tools for all classes. As such, they should be valuable additions to your current materials as you prepare for SOL or Common Core testing.
These materiales are also great for inclusion in your substitute teacher plans.
