Great First Day of School Activity that allows for a creative way to "seat" students. Students get a clue card and they must first determine what U.S. state the clue is describing. Then they must find the desk/table with a picture of that state on it. This activity challenges students' knowledge of the 50 states, the shape of the states, map skills, and use of resources.
This activity can also be used as an "icebreaker" or grouping strategy by distributing clue cards to half of the class and state picture cards to the other half. You can also differentiate for SPED or ELLs by labeling the back of the picture card with the name of the state. Differentiate for gifted learners by asking them to add a fact about the state, not already mentioned in the clue, to the back of the card with a dry erase marker. The possibilities are endless!
Contains clue cards and matching state pictures for all 50 states. An answer key presentation to go over with students is also included. The cards can be printed on Name Badge size labels and stuck to an index card or printed on card stock or regular paper and cut out.
