There are 50 amazingly unique states that make up the United States, but students often know very little about states besides their own! Use this packet to engage students in looking beyond the state they live in and see the unique aspects of the other states in the US! They will be able to see similarities and differences and hopefully make connections that stick with them. Use the state symbol research pages as standalone activities or put them together into an interactive notebook to look back on throughout the year.
In this download, you will find 150+ pages of United States research activities. These activities can be done individually in short 10-15 minute class times, or used to make an entire unit of study! Also included is a state research packet, so that your students can pick a state (or you assign one) that they study more in depth.
*Interactive Notebook Pages (50 pages) to learn about unique features of each state, focusing on state symbols (these can also be used as standalone worksheets)
*Answer Keys (50 pages) for Interactive Notebook pages (because sometimes we teachers need a little cheat sheet ;)
*State Research Report (22 pages) for any state which includes pages to research symbols, tourism, landmarks, geography, sports teams, colleges and universities, famous people, and more!
*Bulletin Board Set Up (20 pages) to display the states studied.
Check out the preview to see more examples of what is included!
*My class participated in a Postcard Exchange with schools across the United States. When we receive a new postcard, we use that opportunity to study the state a little more in depth. We also highlight each state on our bulletin board when the postcard arrives to show which states we have learned about.
I hope you enjoy this unit and your kiddos learn more about the nation we live in!
