This is a word document of 8 word problems that follow a story about Rudolph! The questions all involve double digit multiplication and many of them are multi-step. Students must read carefully and follow through the major steps of problem solving:
1. Read the problem carefully
2. Identify the question
3. Underline/highlight key words and phrases
4. Choose a strategy
6. Double check
Students must be sure to clearly identify the question because not all of the information in the problems is relevant.
The POEM is what I read to my students before I gave them the problem solving assignment (in which they worked in partners!). They enjoyed the poem and laughed as they found out more specifically what Rudolph had done!
The poem and problem solving are also excellent tools to use for a fun assessment! Are the students grasping double digit multiplication? Do they know how to read through word problems to identify the question? Can students solve the problem in more than one way? And so on!
EVERYTHING IS MY OWN CREATION. I WOULD LOVE FEEDBACK BUT MOST OF ALL I HOPE YOU ENJOY!
ALSO: The numbers can be adapted to higher level learning to fit your classroom/student needs!
