This 19 point quiz is on the basics of the instrument, including the parts of the instrument (you will have to draw lines/numbers on your copy and label them by number so students can match the part of the instrument), labeling the strings by # (4,3,2,1) and pitch (G,C,E,A), and 5 simple vocabulary words I cover in my beginner ukulele unit.
Pitch: How high or low a note sounds
Pick: The device we use to strum the strings
Strum: Patterns of rhythm in the music, helping to keep a steady and consistent beat
Chord: 3 or more notes played together creating harmony
Tab: A shorthand method of writing chords, indicating instrument finger position
At the bottom of the quiz, I have two 'giveaway' points where students can reflect on 1 thing that they are doing well in our unit, and 1 thing they need improvement on. This is a good quiz to give after 2 weeks of playing where students have learned the basics of the instrument and can speak the academic language with proper terminology and vocabulary.
