STEM Challenge Designing a Landform
In the STEM activity students will design a model of landforms of their choice. Following a study of landforms students create a landscape showcasing specific landforms. They will use a vast array of supplies and a huge amount of creativity and imagination. This package does not contain specific lessons about landforms. It is intended to be used as a follow-up or culminating activity for your study.
- The lesson guide provides a materials list and then step-by-step procedures to follow to make this a great experience.
- A page of Helpful Hints gives ideas of specific things to think about while using this package.
- Three versions of lab sheets are provided and a page of photos to guide the use of the package.
- A page of Extensions gives ideas of continuing the activity.
You will need some supplies! This list is just a suggested list. You can certainly add to or take away from these ideas! Suggestions: boxes, cardboard, card stock, index cards, construction paper, copy paper, craft items (like pipe cleaners, toothpicks, modeling clay, cotton balls, etc.), white glue, scissors, rubber bands, rulers, and tape. Again, the supplies you use are entirely our choice.

This set of 52 task cards is great for many things! Use it as a preview or review of your study of landforms. These are fabulous for leaving with a substitute, using in centers, using for early finishers, playing scoot, completing extra research, and more! Use the photo identification cards for online scavenger hunts!
The 52 Task cards have backgrounds of bright polka-dot colors with great graphics, actual photos, or completely black and white! The set is easy to differentiate with color-coded backgrounds or use the titles to distinguish the sets.
The set includes: 1
- 12 multiple choice cards for naming a vocabulary word
- 12 identifying vocabulary words
- 16 cards for identifying landforms by a photo
- 8 cards for identifying famous landmarks
- 4 open-ended cards.
Several more things are provided, including:
- 1 page listing of all the word meanings used in the cards.
- Sheet for student answers with two on a page to save copying.
- A one-page answer sheet in a larger size.
- Answer key for cards 1-48 and possibilities for cards 49-52.
- Ink Saver Set- Copy these on brightly colored card stock to save on ink! The ink saver set only includes Task Cards 1-24 and 49-52. Photos are still in color for cards 25-48.
The booklet templates can be completed and put together as a landform booklet. The booklet templates are included with colored drawings and black/ white drawings. Each template has space for writing about the landforms. Flashcards may be used with games and for review of the landforms. Writing prompts are included and may be used in your writing center to help students cement their learning about landforms.
For each idea in the package an overview of ways to use it is included. Photos are included to help you!
