**Great project for real life travel planning and budgeting, critical thinking, problem solving, creative thinking, and technology integration.**
Provided is the Ultimate Vacation Project where students will learn how to analyze a specific vacation destination, analyze a specific hotel/resort, budget for the vacation, and develop a presentation to "sell" the vacation idea to their peers.
*The Destination and Budget: Choose a vacation destination that they would like to market. The destination can be anywhere in the world, must be safe, and fit within the maximum budget of $6,000.00.
*Location: Include a detailed description of where the destination is located and what the destination looks like. Include a map that pinpoints the location of your destination and photos/images that allow others to view the destination.
*Hotel Services and Room Amenities: Include a list of room amenities that are offered at the destination’s hotel/resort and a detailed description of at least three hotel/resort services that will attract guests.
*Travel Package: Include an all-inclusive travel package with full costs. This will allow customers to view how easily it is to travel to the destination and it will save them a lot of time and hassle with booking airfare, hotels/resorts, transportation, etc. The travel package must include:
a. Transportation: The cost of airfare for a round trip. You must go online, view airfare from different airlines, and choose an airline to travel. You must choose an airport to travel from (Example: Indianapolis International Airport) and include additional transportation to the destination (Example: Taxi from airport to the hotel/resort).
b. Hotel/Resort: The cost of the hotel/resort. You must decide how long of a vacation the travel package will offer (1 week, 2 weeks, etc.). You must go online and view how much it will cost for the vacation so customers know the actual cost up-front. (Many times hotels/resorts offer deals at different times of the year. Do some research and see when you can receive the best deal).
c. Total Transportation Cost: Provide the total cost of the round trip airfare AND additional transportation. Make the total cost easy to find and view.
*Nearby Attractions/Points-of-Interest: Include a detailed description of at least five attractions/points of interest that are near the destination.
*Itemized Total: Include an itemized total that outlines the cost for the entire trip (transportation, nearby attractions/points of interest, etc.)
*Project Directions and Rubric - Students will know exactly what needs to be accomplished for the project and how they will be graded for each section of the project.
*Past Examples - Three different student examples are included so your students will have a better idea of how to successfully accomplish the project. (NOTE: The $6,000.00 maximum budget was not in affect for the examples that are included).
Duration of Project: This project typically takes one week for students to prepare and one week for students to present (depending on class size).
