These sight word games and activities coordinate with my Kindergarten Homework Menus
. The Homework Menus include monthly Sight Word assessments and combined with these games and activities they provide an integrated sight word acquisition program.
Dr. Edward B. Fry compiled lists of the 1,000 most commonly used words in English and ranked them in order of frequency. The first 100 words comprise approximately 50% of all words found in publications, this pack includes the first 150 Fry words. To become fluent readers, students should recognize these words without hesitation. Students learn sight words in many ways so providing a variety of opportunities for students to access them is essential. Listening & saying, repetition, through music, and through games are just a few ways that these activities will help your students engage and practice using the first 150 Fry words!
Each month includes 12 games and activities as well as a set of word wall cards. The months of November and December are intentionally “lighter” due to the holidays so I combined the words for those months into one Battleship game.
Each month is laid out in the follow sequence:
-Word Wall Cards
*use for memory, fishing, and swat-a-word.
-Sight Word Song
-Snakes and Ladders
TIP: Print the games and activities for each month on one color of paper. For example: orange paper for October, yellow paper for November, red paper for December, etc. This will make organizing and storing games and activities simple!
