The Writing Center Ultimate Resource is designed to offer year-long materials to stock your writing center. This unit allows for little set up, management, or prep time for teachers; while offering a flexible tool to match the needs of individual students. Students will work independently and will spend 25-45 minutes at the center. Class size and the number of rotations the students participate in weekly or monthly determines the number of other centers available within your specific classroom. However, plentiful lessons are provided for students to write meaningful and individualized lessons. Typically a student would visit the center once or twice a week with a new lesson rotated every two to three weeks dependent upon the students’ progress. The ideas can be used along with a writing rubric appropriate for the developmental stage of your students. Each lesson contains mandatory or student directed activities. This system allows for independent study, student directed activities, and differentiation; with minimal time spent.
Learning centers are a beneficial classroom experience. These writing center lessons are recommended for the general education or special education classrooms for grades 2nd through 6th.
