After having studied Earth’s Systems and Water Distribution, this writing exercise is a great way to blend prior knowledge with new information. Students will read 3 articles and then respond to a writing prompt. They will need to make a claim and support that claim with evidence from the articles. Finally, a Works Cited page should be included to properly give credit to the articles.
I did this lesson with my 5th graders after learning about Earth’s Systems. This lesson is a great way to have your students practice for Writing Assessments – it will make them think beyond “Right There” answers and use evidence to back up their ideas and claims.
