This is a brief, one page reading the helps explain the Underground Railroad. It introduces your students to terms used throughout the escape process like "packages", "conductors", "stations" and more. It discusses the challenges faced by both fugitives and conductors. Finally, it talks about one of the greatest conductors of all time: Harriet Tubman. After the reading, students answer 9 questions about what they just read.
This can be used as classwork, homework, or a supplement used for a substitute.
