Take your students on a journey they will never forget. Engage them as they learn about history. This underground railroad unit begins as slavery begins and ends with the death of Abe Lincoln. It also covers famous slaves, provides a deep understanding of slave life and the how the underground railroad worked, it goes into detail about the Civil War and then teaches about Abraham Lincoln. Each week of the unit is mapped out, however the order and way you implement the lessons is up to you. There are multiple teaching options for each day including read alouds, you tube videos and nonfiction passages. An interactive notebook can be copied for each student to use throughout the unit. They can take notes, glue pages and use pages as desired. The nice thing about this unit is that you can teach it its entirety or use as needed. It is a great resource to have available.
The students love taking this journey to freedom. They learn so much and develop such compassion and understanding for history.
This unit ties greatly into my biography unit that studies famous Americans.
