This resource was created to go along with a Harriet Tubman study during my student teaching in a first grade classroom. As a class, we read: Fitzwild, A. (2006). Harriet Tubman (American Heroes) (pp. 6-9). Houghton Mifflin. This assignment allows the students to put themselves into the situation of being a part of the Underground Railroad. They will be given the opportunity to write about the Underground Railroad by describing how a slave might find their “safe house” if traveling along the Underground Railroad, and what their safe house might look like. This assessment is aligned with: “Students will be able to describe the Underground Railroad and its importance to American History.”
