I wanted my students to tell me what the Underground Railroad was like instead of reading about it or me lecturing. We watched a short video clip on the Underground Railroad and discussed what students already knew about it. I then gave my students 8 sources that would show students what a runaway slave went through and how abolitionists helped slaves runaway. The analysis sheet helped students asked their own questions and made them more curious and take control of their own learning. I had students do two to three sources a day. By the time we went over all of the sources students had a great understanding of the time period and came up with great questions. I printed out packets for the students. I also had them use at least three sources for their answers.
