Build your students understanding of addition and subtraction strategies through the use of this POWERPOINT Unit (also available as a SMARTBOARD UNIT in my store). A good foundation of number sense can be attained through the mathematical concepts included in this unit. Workbooks can be made for each student by exporting this file as a PDF. I put two slides on each page and copy the books back to back. As I am teaching, the students follow along and EVERYONE gets the opportunity to solve and actively participate in the lessons. There are plenty of slides for each skill addressed and if you feel the need to teach more slides than provided, simply duplicate the slide and change the numbers or words to suit your needs. (Note: This unit was originally created as a SmartBoard Unit and exported as a Powerpoint, therefore if it says to drag a shape or words, you will simply need to write them instead unless you choose not to view it as a slideshow (which may allow you to move shapes and words around freely as I cloned them and created multiple layers so you could do so).
In this unit, the following concepts will be addressed:
*Extend or find a missing element in a pattern of numbers and shapes.
*Identify and describe the rule for a pattern shown.
*Skip count by 5,10, and 100
*Find a number (0-100) on a number line. Add or subtract another number and find the sum or difference on a number line (done through a story problem in this unit).
*Demonstrate the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction using fact families, properties of operations, and strategies based on place value
*Find the missing number that makes a number sentence true.
*Choose a number sentence that matches a given story (students will write the number sentences).
*Create or match a story to a given combination of symbols and numbers (read story problems and write number sentences).
*Identify the correct operations to solve a word problem.
